SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH – The second stop of The North Face Park and Pipe Open Series presented by Nissan (PPOS) continues its competition season with a two-day slopestyle event at Whistler, British Columbia (CAN) January 14-15, 2014. Although the Whistler stop was originally announced as a slopestyle and halfpipe event, organizers have adjusted the format to two days of slopestyle, one qualifier day and one final day. The finals competition will be webcast live on thenorthfaceppos.com Jan. 15 and televised at a later date(s).

“We have been overwhelmed by the enthusiasm surrounding this season’s PPOS,” said Barb Hamblett, PPOS event director. “After an extremely successful halfpipe competition at Copper Mountain last month, athletes are eager to compete in slopestyle.”

The North Face Park and Pipe Open Series will take place in the Nintendo Terrain Park on Blackcomb Mountain. To access the Nintendo Terrain Park guests can upload via the Excalibur Gondola located in the main village at the base of Whistler Mountain or the Wizard Express located at the base of Blackcomb Mountain in the upper village. Free parking is available for guests in lots 4,5,6,7 and 8.

“Whistler Blackcomb is looking forward to welcoming some of the best up and coming slopestyle athletes in North America to our award winning Nintendo Highest Level Terrain Park,” said Whistler Blackcomb Event and Terrain Park Manager Peter Young. “The park is in great shape and our park builders and snowmakers have been taking advantage of recent cold temperatures to create the perfect stage to host this important competition, on the road to the X Games and Olympics.”

The North Face Park and Pipe Open Series presented by Nissan in Whistler begins Monday, Jan. 13 with athlete check-in and practice. The slopestyle competition will commence with men’s qualifiers on Jan. 14, and conclude Jan. 15 with men’s and women’s finals.

Slopestyle skiing takes place in a venue comprised of man-made features such as rails, boxes and jumps contained on a single slope. Judging is based on overall impression, including content, difficulty of run, style and use of park. Slopestyle and halfpipe skiing will make their Olympic debut at the Sochi, Russia Winter Olympic Games in February.
