Stoneham, January 8, 2013 – Being host of eight consecutive editions of the FIS World Snowboard Cup since 2005, this season Stoneham Mountain Resort proudly receives the World Championships, on weekends from January 18 to 27, 2013. This international event is promising to be of the most significant for both, resort and athletes, as it is also a pass for a few riders, to next Winter Olympics, in Sochi [Russia] next winter. For this very special occasion, Stoneham will raise the bar of its venues, to increase the challenge for athletes and present the most grandiose event.

OLYMPIC HALF PIPE STILL GROWING
Our Olympic half pipe is unique in the province of Québec and also the only National HP Training Center on the East coast. This season, it is lengthened, lying 15 meters uphill, from 130 to 145 meters. This enhancement allows professional athletes to squeeze in an extra jump for every run [5 instead of 4], which is considerable.
Technical specs: 19 meters wide / 6.7 meters high / 16.5° slope
Thanks to this permanent structure, the resort is especially proud to allow local athletes performing on the international circuit to train in Quebec, while also serving as a venue for major sporting events, season after season. “We are happy to welcome the best snowboarders of the world, which is truly inspiring for our up and coming youngsters.” says Daniel Rochon, VP and General Manager for both Stoneham Mountain Resort and Mont-Sainte-Anne, continuing: “Our team makes every effort to provide the infrastructures of highest standard for this important event.”

ALL DISCIPLINES IMPROVED
Slopestyle will newly be part of the Winter Olympics in 2014. Integrated to the World Cup network since last year, the discipline is still young and for the occasion, Stoneham plans to increase the course’s difficulty level with larger and more spectacular structures compared to last season. It’s also significant to mention that changes have been applied to our snowmaking system for all disciplines presented during the Championships. At large, we estimate more than 500 hours of mechanical work necessary to build and remove all infrastructures needed for the event, in addition to hundreds of hours spent earlier for shaping the half pipe and delivering it to the public in early January.
