There are only a few things better than a giant bag full of candy on Halloween weekend. However, one has to be this news out of Calgary. Nakiska Mountain Resort will be the first ski/snowboard area in Canada to open for the year on Saturday, October 29th.

This weekend at Nakiska three runs will be open off the Gold Express Chair: Upper Mapmaker, Middle Mapmaker, and BigBear. The Olympic Express Chair will be running, taking riders from and back to the base of the mountain.

Nakiska’s grand opening has to be one of the earliest official starts for any ski/snowboard resort in Canada on record. Calgarians can thank the cold nightly temperatures and the improvements in snowmaking for the early start.

Later in the season Nakiska will also have its new Na.jib.ska rail park opening as well as its Skier/Boarder Cross Course.

If you are in, or around, the Calgary area this weekend don’t miss out on the opportunity to do some Halloween slashes at Nakiska.
