Burton’s Weekend at Fernie’s – an all girls, all mountain snowboard camp went off this past weekend at Fernie Alpine Resort. This was the second annual event and it stepped up to a whole new level this year with increased enrolment and support. The amount of progression that went down over two days was astonishing, as we saw girls of all levels take their riding to the next level. Coaches broke the girls into five groups divided by the skills that each rider and group wanted to work on. We had girls learning to hit rails, learning to spin, ollie and improve their overall technique.
Burton supplied a full demo fleet for the weekend so not only did the girls learn new riding skills but they got the chance to ride the latest technologies, and try a few different boards. The Burton Lipstick and Escapade EST Bindings were the camp favourites with the Nugget, Déjà vu and Lexa EST Bindings also getting lots of love from the girls.
The weather showed many faces from snow to sun to a heavy rainfall throughout Sunday but nothing stopped these ladies from riding. They owned the mountain and rail park while the rest of the town stayed inside to keep dry. “I don’t even walk in the rain and I’m out here having a blast riding,” said Jess. Their positivity, despite conditions that would turn the fair weathered away was inspiring.
Cat track session
The rain did not stop these girls from hiking the rail park all afternoon.
Time for prizing! All the ladies received stacked goodie bags at the end of the camp.
Hockey tickets, Samsung tablets, Burton backpacks, hoodies and Anon goggles were some of the great draw prizes.
Burton also kicked down to provide two brand new Lipstick snowboards for the grand draw prize. Nothing but smiles for this winner.
Thank you to everyone that came out!
Looking forward to next year!
