BURLINGTON, VT — Top riders from across the globe are lining up to compete in the Burton Canadian Open, taking place from February 2 – 8, 2009 at Canada Olympic Park in Calgary, a facility of WinSport Canada.

Current Burton Global Open Series point leaders and SWATCH Ticket to Ride World Snowboard Tour point leaders Chas Guldemond (USA) and Jamie Anderson (USA) will compete.

Seasoned pros will meet local, up-and-coming riders to compete in halfpipe and slopestyle for over $50,000 CAD. In addition to Anderson and Guldemond, Lisa Wiik (NOR), Mikkel Bang (NOR), Peetu Piiroinen (FIN), Silvia Mittermuller (GER), Marko Grilc (SLO) and Alexis Waite (USA) will battle Canadians like Brad Martin, Sarah Conrad, Jeff Batchelor, Spencer O'Brien, Dustin Craven, Charles Reid, Leanne Pelosi and Sebastien Toutant on their home turf at Canada's first Burton Open Snowboarding Championship event.

With events scheduled year-round and in six countries, the Canadian Open is the fourth stop on the Burton Global Open Series and offers riders the chance to earn points towards a male and female championship title, each worth $100,000, currently the largest single payout in competitive snowboarding.

The Burton Global Open Series is also part of the Swatch Ticket To Ride World Snowboard Tour (TTR), the largest group of independent freestyle snowboard events in the world. TTR ranks riders based on their results at participating competitions and crowns a TTR World Champion at the US Open. For more information on the Swatch TTR World Tour, visit www.ttrworldtour.
